THE BEGINNINGS:

First I saw English Setter in 1978 when a friend of mine found an ownerless English Setter dog, named Brunó. He was to stay with us a few days only, however we loved him very much and he stayed with us until he died at age of 4 years. Due to him I became acquainted with this wonderful breed and now I just cannot imagine my life without English Setters. I bought my first bitch, Meleghegyi Gina in 1979 and she was the Domoszlói-Vadász foundation bithc. At that time the kennel Meleghegyi had English Setters imported from Germany. The decision that I bought my foundation bitch from that kennel has determined the carriage and character of my English Setters for 20 years. The first litter was born in 1983 and I kept a blue belton dog, not for breeding but just for pet purposes. Gina had 5 litters and 10 winners were born in the 5 litters.Gina was 10 years old when she gave birth to our beloved Szafi, a tri bitch. Gina died in 1989 and she passed on the torch to Szafi.

The foundation of the kennel:

Meleghegyi Gina was the Domoszlói-Vadász foundation bitch. The kennel was foundated in 1983 when the first litter was born.

HCH. Domoszlói-Vadász Danton-

We were very proud of "Szafi" as in his first show (she was 9 months old) she was awarded the JW title. In 1991 when she was 1,5 year old, she passed hunting test and in 1993 she was warded Hungarian Champion title.

Szafi's results:

Our first trip to England:

My dream to buy English Setters in England came true in 1993. I had several tries with no success before. On the first day of our stay in England Miss M.D.Barnes, owner of the Suntop kennel, was so kind to receive us in her home. On the second day we paid a visit in the Bournehouse kennel, where we bought a lovely 5 months old tri bitch - as suggested by her breeder. On the third day we arrived in the Valsett Kennel and we were given a warm reception by Valerie Watkin.. We had the luck that she had six 3 months old puppies to sale. We loved a lovely orange dog at first sight. The two puppies arrived in Hungary on the 29th March 1993.

Bitch: BOURNEHOUSE RAIN OR SHINE "ROXAN"
(breeder: Penny and Gordon Williams -GB) - born: 4th October 1992

Dog: HJCH. VALSETT STARLITE ROCKAFELL "ROCCO"
(breeder: Joe and Val Watkin - BG) - born: 23rd November 1992

When buying these two puppies my intention was to ameliorate the Hungarian English Setter stock and to realise that the puppies born in my kennel could be comparable to "English" type of English Setter.
